Scythes latest CPU cooler, the Infinity, boasts Scythe’s new Interleave Fin Structure (IIFS) for higher efficiency, four way mounting, tool free installation, five heatpipes in a U-shaped configuration, it also fits every desktop socket type.
At 160mm tall the Infinity is enormous. Attached to the five U-shaped heatpipes is 58 aluminium fins. These fins provide the Infinity with a massive surface area which dissipates the heat from the CPU. Every alternate fin is shorter - Scythe call this IIFS (Interleave Fin Structure) and it is this structure that makes the Infinity a very efficient CPU cooler, so much so it will cool any CPU currently on the market.
Installation of the Infinity is extremely simple. Just like the Samurai Z and the Miné, the Infinity uses the VTMS mounting system. This is one of the easiest mounting systems we have come across, therefore no tools are required for installation. You do not even need to remove the motherboard from the system if your PC is already built.
The supplied 120mm fan is fixed speed. It runs at 120mm RPM which produces only 23.5 db(A). This fan speed and therefore noise can be easily reduce with the aid of a RC56. This small resistor will reduce the fan speed to around 950RPM which will take the noise level below 20 db(A). If you want more control over the fan speed it also works perfectly with the Zalman Fanmate2. Our only word of warning is that if you have the fan speed set too low while using the Fanmate please be aware that the fan may not start due to the low amount of voltage supplied to the fan. Increasing the voltage on the Fanmate will solve this. This is also the reason we do not recommend using the RC100 with this fan.
